Title: Shades
The name of my art piece is SHADES. My piece depicts a somewhat close up image of woman with dark sunglasses on with dark lipstick on. Her hair is a dirty blonde color and shaded with highlights in as well. The elements and principles in my piece is obvious. I used value to create contrast in her hair to show that you can see the texture in her hair.
I used shading pencils, a lead pencil, blending stump, and a cotton ball. First, I mapped out my piece of course. Mapping out the sunglasses, nose then lips after doing the face shape and outline of her hair. I started shading the sunglasses then went in the same order I started mapping out the face like. Afterwards, I started getting the hair-- medium, then I began to darken it in the darker areas of her hair (I remembered to put in the texture of her hair.) After that, I blended it out before doing the lighter areas and blending it out again.
My artwork was inspired by me not ever doing a piece that did not necessarily show the eyes. My piece does not show any public or social issue but, I really liked that I somewhat challenged myself to do something a little different this time.
My goal is to grow as a pencil artist. My last piece that was done in pencil was pretty good and I can not seem to get any better than that so I would like to try my best to do so the last time around.
I learned that I should do a piece that actually show eyes because it grabs the readers attention more than it being covered up. It shows a lot of contrast and definitely draws attention but, I would not draw it again. It is really good but I expected better, considering my other art pieces.
Title: Lorusso
My artwork depicts a profile of a woman looking down with dark-red hair. The subject matter was master's style acrylic piece. The name of the piece is Lorusso. I named it after the artist's last name--the artist I decided to emulate for this piece. I used color to show balance in her face so I could blend the colors I used.
The media I used to create this piece was acrylic. I used a flat and round brush to paint on my canvas board. I started by doing four sketches to figure out which was better. At first I was going for a pop art piece with Ariana Grande in it. But, I switched it to Realism. After mapping it out on the canvas board, I started to paint her hair going medium colors to light after dark. After, I started to do her ear then face, blending the colors needed. Finally, I finished it with smaller details such as her eyelashes and eyebrows--getting detail in the ear, etc.
Joseph Lorusso inspired my artwork. I tried emulating his style. It does not look exactly like his artwork but I tried.
My goals for this piece was to finally be able to paint and make the piece itself look realistic. I reached my goal and I say it can't get any better than it is. I did pretty good for the first time.
Though as I created this piece. I learned that when trying to blend, it is better to keep the area you are trying to blend wet so it can all blend correctly. The piece isn't how I imagined it. I mean, I did good but, in my mind I expected it to stay looking like Ariana Grande but I put my own spin to it to where I see fit and it worked out okay.
Title: Melman
The name of my piece is Melman. It depicts a 3D version of a giraffe made out of cardboard and covered in newspaper(prints). The subject matter was for me to depict a 3D sculpture of anything. I used shape to create balance in my piece. I had to create my piece to where it would be structurally sound.
In this piece I used a bunch of tape, scissors, cardboard, toilet tissue, paper towel rolls, newspaper, newspaper print. To start my piece off, I sketched each side out and did an X-ray to point out what items I would use beforehand. Afterwards, I cut out a big piece of cardboard and shaped it as if it was the body of a giraffe. Next, I taped it together so it can stay as it was. After that, I cut out some sketches of the legs, taped them on one by one after taping newspaper on one by one--making each leg firm enough to stay put. Lastly. I began to work on putting newspaper on the neck and body to began plastering it(which I have yet to do).
My work was inspired by myself and Christine Cummings. My work could express a social issue but I don't really know if giraffes are endangered or not.
My goals are honestly to TRY getting finished before the piece is due all together. I didn't reach my goals because I am far from finishing.
Doing this piece, I learned that whenever making 3D pieces such as this, I need to make sure that not one side is bigger than the other and that it is balanced as well as structurally sound. When I look at the piece now I say it looks better than imagined because my idea at first was totally out in the water. It would've looked horrible if I did it the way I first intended.
Title: Half-hearted
The name of my piece is half-hearted. It depict a hand that is shaped as half of a heart. It is colored with sunburst yellow, a weird kind of dull orange, brown, along with white. I used value in my piece to create balance. Where when I colored it'd looked nicely blended.
I used prismas to create my art piece. First thing I did to create the piece was draw out a couple sketches, sketch it out on a larger paper. Before beginning with using prismas, I practiced on several other sheets to make sure I used the right colors blending to make a tanish-brown color. After that, I started with my final adding highlights (heavy pressure), then I went and added some more white on places that were lighter but added light pressure to it. Next, I started adding color from the dull orange to sunburst yellow to brown and I just kept layering and layering to get the right color. Lastly, I burnished then signed my name.
My artwork was inspired by Wanjin Gim, the artist we were to study for this piece. I would not say my piece shows awareness or expresses a social issue but it does show something everyone has dealt with, love life-wise. The shape of the hand shows a half heart which means that you're giving affection to your love when they may or may not feel the same way about you. So kind of a one-sided relationship piece. Not a lot of the colors that were used shows emotion, but if I were to add blue everyone would know it'd express pain/sadness.
This piece definitely helped my goals. It showed that I was about to challenge myself and try new things that were once considered tough to do on my end which was drawing a hand.
While creating this piece I learned how to blend with prismas and how to use prismas. My piece is actually better than I imagined. I thought the fact that I never used prismas nor have I drawn a hand, would render my creativeness and it'd look terrible all together.
Title: Medusa
The name of my piece is Medusa. It depicts an image of a woman (Medusa) with snake for her hair. One of the snakes stands out from the others. It is hanging across a tree branch and is a scaly black color. The others on her hair is emerald. The idea of this piece was to emulate Justin BUA's work so the subject matter is to express both exaggeration and foreshortening. In my piece I used color to express movement in the piece to show that the snakes in her hair was making some movement.
I chose to use acrylic as the media for my piece. First thing I did was do my four sketches. Afterwards, I sketched out Medusa onto the canvas board then I started painting the background a green color. After that, I painted her face by mixing brown and white together making a pale color. Next, I started painting the snakes in her hair. I painted it from light to dark on each to represent movement. Then, I painted the other snake that shows foreshortening. I painted it black. Different shades of black to show movement. Lastly I finished up with painting the branch and the eyes along with the eyebrows.
Justin BUA was the artist that inspired me for this piece. It does not show any real life issues or problems but it did help me improve my art.
My goal remains the same as the last. Keep improving. Ask questions in order to improve. This piece did help improve my goals a little because whenever I needed help making the snakes look realistic for my piece, I asked and it looked started to look realistic.
I learned how to use different values of color to make the piece look realistic as well as make it look blended well. The piece turned out well, though not better than I wanted it to look because I failed to put more details into it as I intended. It will influence my future because I will now put a little more effort into my work than before.
Title: Spring Bunny
My piece is called Spring Bunny. My artwork depicts a semi-tall looking bowl. The front of it is the face of a bunny including its eyes, ears, cheeks, etc. and all around the piece is the texture of its fur. The back has a tail that also has a fur-like texture. And underneath the tail "Spring" is spelled out in cursive. Beside the tail there is a bee and a flower on the other side of it. In the piece I used form to create emphasis.
The media used to create this piece was clay. Throughout the piece I used the coil method. Made every coil thick enough so the piece wouldn't fall in whenever it got taller. The process I did to create my piece was to first sketch out my idea showing front, back, left, and right. Considering that all sides had to be as equally interesting as the front. Afterwards, I began using clay doing the coil method to form a shape. I waited till it got tall enough to add the face shape of a bunny to the front part. Of course I sketched it out before adding extra clay to it. After that I added the bunny ears. Had to get it at the right size before finishing up and starting on extra details around the rest of the bowl. After drawing the flower and bee I wrote the word "Spring" in cursive then created the tail. Finally, I did some finishing touches such as the texture (I stabbed one of the tools all around it to create a texture.)
Well that one bunny I looked up on the internet helped with my creation but I was not necessarily inspired by a specific artist. It does not show a social issue--unless it could includes me not wanting people to go out and shoot bunnies/rabbits just to please their appetite.
My goals as an artist is to be aware of things before I declare that I am finished. Overall I'd say it helped a little bit because I said that I was done several times before I actually was.
As I completed the piece I know that you can create texture by using anything really. My piece did not turn out how I expected because originally I thought to make it smaller than it is and it was supposed to be a mug originally.
Title: Isn't It Lovely
The name of my art piece is "Isn't It Lovely?" The subject matter is a portrait and it obviously depicts the image of Billie Eilish. The background is blue with some shades of black as well as lyrics from many of her songs. I used value to create contrast in the piece.
The media I used to create my art piece was charcoal. I used vine, compressed, and pencil charcoal as well as a blending stump to create it. The first thing I did was create sketches then chose one of the four I like the best. The I sketched it out on the final paper. Afterwards, I started with the hair. Using vine first then I used compressed for the darker parts of her hair. Then I did the background blue and shade of black. I started on details of the face then wrote out the lyrics. Then finally I sprayed it so the charcoal won't stick on my hands when I'd touch it.
What inspired my art piece was just the love of the artist herself(Billie Eilish). I love her songs and really wanted to draw her. Plus I've never been able to draw someone well known.
My goals are to continue drawing people that are well-known and be good at it. And maybe even get better at charcoal. I can say I've reached my goal being that it was the first.
I learned that AGAIN the charcoal pencils are used for details. I forgot at one point but I'll remember for next time. It turned out better than I imagined. In the future, it'll help me because I'd know what to start off with first.
